The Highway Empty Re: The Highway

Post  Blaine Anderson Thu Dec 23, 2010 11:41 pm

After he finished washing the gel out of his hair, Blaine hopped into his car and started up the engine, giving it a second to heat up before pulling out of the school parking lot and making his way to Breadsticks. He had been there once before, and his car had GPS so he was pretty sure he’d be able to find his way there and all. He plugged his iPod into the stereo system and pressed play, staring at the screen in surprise as ‘I’ll Make a Man Out of You’ came on. He couldn’t even remember the last time he heard this song!

He started out with just humming along to the music as his fingers lightly tapped along the beat on the steering wheel, not really caring much because there was no one here to judge him or anything. As the lyrics started…Blaine couldn’t help but sing along.

“Let’s get down to business…to defeat…the Huns! Did they send me daughters? When I asked for sons? You’re the saddest bunch I’ve ever met, but you can bet before we’re through…Mister, I’ll make a man out of you!” he sang out rather loudly as he drove down the highway, glad to have such an awesome music selection on his iPod because it sure would help make this drive go by quicker.

“Tranquil as a forest, but on fire within! Once you find your center, you are sure to win. You're a spineless, pale pathetic lot, and you haven't got a clue. Somehow I'll make a man out of you! I'm never gonna catch my breath. Say good-bye to those who knew me,” he sang, getting more into the song with every verse. “Boy, was I a fool in school for cutting gym! This guy's got 'em scared to death! Hope he doesn't see right through me. Now I really wish that I knew how to swim!”

And so Blaine continued, singing along with the song and every other song that came on until he finally made it to Lima and pulled into the Breadsticks parking lot. He parked his car and pulled out his phone to send Kurt a quick text.

Post  Blaine Anderson Wed Jan 12, 2011 11:07 pm

Blaine pulled away from Rachel's house and onto the road (this time without the loud singing of Disney songs). He figured that this short drive was going to end up seeming a lot longer than it really was. And then it hit him that Sam couldn't be 'gay' at his new school. Kurt mentioned a while ago that he was the only out kid at McKinley so Sam must have been keeping it a secret just like he had at Dalton, which made Blaine feel rather sick with guilt because keeping a secret from Kurt was the last thing he wanted to do.

After reminding Blaine the directions to get back to his house, Kurt watched Sam uneasily. He didn't really understand what possessed anyone to drink quite this much. Then again, the only time he'd gotten drunk he'd discovered that it only made him feel depressed (how could anyone not cry at Bambi?!?) and sick. He probably still owed Ms. Pillsbury a new pair of shoes (preferably ones that weren't quite as attrocious as the pair he'd inadvertantly ruined... )

"You doing okay?" he asked Sam, rubbing his back just a little bit, knowing that always made him feel better when he wasn't feeling well.

Sam was utterly confused and oblivious to where he was. Hell, the last two hours seemed like a blur to him. All he remembered was being kidnapped by Harry Potter and licking somebody’s earlobe…
When Sam was strapped in the back seat, he started becoming even loopier. If that was even possible, he felt as a reassuring hand rubbed his back. “Oh my god! That tickles!” he squealed, laughing hysterically. He was becoming insanely giddy and he started squirming in his seat. Although, Sam was never the ticklish type…
That’s when he grasped hold of those hands and examined them. “Oh em gee! You’re hands are so soft!” He started stroking them and playing with them, in utter amusement.
“Driver! Driver! VROOM VROOOM VROOM!” he screeched, mimicking his best car sound. He was always known for his impressions. “VROOM VROOM! LET’S GO GO GO!” Sam had continued screaming as he repeatedly kicked the back of the drivers chair intently.

Kurt smiled as Sam commented on his hands. It was on the tip of his tongue to let Sam in on the secret to his soft skin when Sam started loudly mimicking car sounds (which Blaine's hybrid car didn't actually make) reminding Kurt just how drunk his friend was. As Sam started kicking at the back of Blaine's seat, he quickly shifted his body, trying to use his legs to hold Sam's back. "Shhhh," he urged Sam. "We'll be home in just a few minutes and then you can have some coffee...and a shower," he added, wrinking his nose again. "And some mouth wash."

[WOW I AM A FAIL. I didn't see that you posted. *kicks the red buttons that aren't working very well* Sorry!]

She thanked again after they exited the restaurant and then began to head to her house. She thought carefully about what kind of movie she was in the mood for. Though she was in the mood for one about two best friends who live happily with brothers that they each had married and then one gets sick and she needs the kidney of her soul sister to live...she doubted that he was up for something like that. Plus, she didn't want him to really sit through a movie he found insufferable. "I'm up for watching anything. Just...not Avatar," she added in an afterthought. She had attempted to watch it once, but it really didn't do it for her. In fact, she got half way through it and decided to turn it off. Not that she ever told Sam she attempted to watch it for him though.

"I understand if you don't want to watch a romantic comedy or even a romance, so I'll settle with an action movie if you want," she offered. Her movie collection at home with her mom was quite large, so she was sure they would find something they would both agree on. "Oh, and we can use the larger television in the living room," she said. "My mom isn't home so we don't have to worry about her complaining about noise coming from the TV," she rolled her eyes.

[AHA! I guess that makes me a much more epic fail since I was wondering why the bubble was never lit red until I soon discovered you had posted in the Highway thread. *facepalm* PS-it's like 2 am so if this post sucks, I apologize in advance...]

Sam enforced himself to keep his eye on the road, as he continued navigating his way to Quinn's place. He never was the best of drivers for of his lack of concentration. Though he pursued an effort to intently listen to Quinn while he was driving so she didn't get the sense he was ignoring her. When she had claimed she was fine with any movie other then Avatar, he nodded slightly- his face burning scarlet. Okay, so Avatar was the ultimate movie in his eyes- no big deal yet he knew his passion for it could be quite the turn off...

"Okay no Avatar", he agreed, releasing a strained laughter. Quinn had then suggested they'd watch a thriller/action movie for he didn't seem entitled to a romantic based film. He shook his head at that thought. "Nah...I'm up for a romantic movie", he insisted, honestly. "The Notebook is actually my favorite aside from Avatar." Sam was shocked with his confession and became to panic slightly, why the hell did he say that? Make it blankly obvious will you?

"Don't tell Puckerman that or I'm a dead man", he joked, hoping Quinn didn't take it seriously or question him. He nodded to her informing him about using the big screen as he turned on to Dudley street.

[Hahahahaha, it's finnnnne. It happens to us all XD]

Quinn had glanced at him when she mentioned she didn't want to watch Avatar, and she felt sort of bad for not liking the movie. Especially when it was his favorite. Perhaps she really ought to give it a chance again. Maybe if she were to watch it with Sam sometime, she would actually be interested in it.

She looked at him with slight surprise when he mentioned he would be up for watching a romantic movie. Sam always managed to find a way to surprise her. Not many guys were up for sitting through those kind of movies, but he didn't seem to mind at all. The real surprise though came when he told her what his favorite movie was. "What?" she asked, her mind rather shocked. It wasn't a bad thing that it was one of his favorite movies, just...not the most masculine choice.

"I won't tell him. I don't even talk to Puck," she said, smoothing her hem of her dress down over her legs. "I think it says a lot about you if it's one of your favorite movies," she said with a small shrug. "Not bad things," she added. "It's one of my favorite movies too though," she smiled. "So it's settled then?" she asked once they turned onto her street. "We'll watch The Notebook?"

As Sam pulled into the Fabray’s household, he cooled down a little since Quinn didn’t seem rather suspicious that his favourite movie happened to be one of the sappiest love stories of all time. He was safe, so he inhaled deeply and released a strained smile. Maybe he shouldn’t push it and mention that it also happened to be one of his favourite books of all time and that Nicholas Sparks novels were his guilty pleasure…

“Sounds good”, he agreed, faintly giddy that she seemed keen on watching the Notebook since it was also one of her favourites. When she had insisted that she wouldn’t breathe a word to Puck, he couldn’t help but to feel sympathetic. Despite the fact he didn’t attend McKinley last year, Sam was well aware on what went down with Quinn’s pregnancy and Puck being the father…it still boggled his mind to this very day. If anyone, Puck could be classified as the most UNLIKELY to be a dad yet I guess it was bound to happen since he had banged so many girls. Knowing how harsh the mentioning of never speaking to Puck made her feel, he intertwined their hands together and kissed her on the forehead when he parked.

A nervous sensation had struck him once they had approached the vacant household. All in all, Quinn wasn’t exactly needy…if you knew where he was getting at…and Sam wasn’t exactly a manwhore like Puck. But he was a dude for crying out loud, a dude with average raging hormones. He shook the thoughts out of his head and hoped out to open the door for her.

Blaine looked away guiltily as he opened the passenger door of his car for Kurt, still feeling awful for being the one that started all of this. He should have just called Rachel back when she said she was driving, and none of this would have happened. As much as he wanted to believe Rachel was fine, the fact that she stopped answering her phone after he heard the scream was causing him to assume the worst.

Kurt let out a small curse as Finn hung up on him. He knew he should have called Schue to be there with Finn. "She's going to be fine," he repeated the assertion to himself. He glanced at Blaine, his eyes questioning. "What happened?" he finally asked, afraid of hearing the answer.

Blaine stayed quiet as he put the key in the ignition and started the car. He turned to look at his boyfriend as he honestly answered his question, "I...was on the phone with Rachel..." He figured that Kurt would probably wonder why they were on the phone with each other. It wasn't like they had anything else to do for the hour car ride, so it was inevitable that Kurt would ask eventually. "I called Rachel to ask her about singing a song to you with the rest of the Warblers but I wasn't sure if you'd like it and Shane told me that you'd be embarrassed and I didn't know what to do and I figured that since she knew you longer that she'd be a good person to ask so I called her and she was driving but she said it was no problem and one minute we were talking and the next she was screaming and then I heard crashing and glass shattering and then nothing," he explained in one breath. He took a deep breath as he started driving to the Lima hospital. "I don't know exactly what happened but I shouldn't have called. It was stupid of me to call Rachel just to ask one little question, and if I would have just left it alone she wouldn't be in this mess right now."

The Highway Empty Re: The Highway

Post  Kurt Hummel Sat Mar 05, 2011 10:13 pm

Kurt had to admit he was curious why Blaine was talking to Rachel. He was more than a little bit of surprised as Blaine explained the reason. If he weren't so worried, he would have been bursting with excitement at what Blaine had been planning. He also didn't miss the self-loathing in Blaine's words and tone. He shook his head. "She's going to be fine," he found himself assuring yet another person. He reached over and placed his hand on Blaine's shoulder. "And it's not your fault," he added, thinking back over Blaine's words. He rubbed his hand down Blaine's arm soothingly. "You couldn't have known she was driving when you called. She said she was fine. And I assure you that as soon as you mentioned why you were calling--which, so you know, I would have loved--she would have called you back as soon as you'd hung up driving or not." He smiled fondly even as tears formed in the corners of his eyes. "But she is going to be fine," he insisted, continuing to rub Blaine's arm, comforting Blaine, but also himself. There was nothing that they were able to do until they got to the hospital, and he wanted to keep himself and Blaine from getting too upset until they knew at least a little bit more. He was tempted to call Mercedes but didn't want to worry her, and also wanted to keep the line open for Rachel, Finn, or Carole to call as soon as there was any news.

Though he wanted to distract himself and Blaine, he thought back over Blaine's words. "Who's Shane?"

Blaine smiled as soon as he felt Kurt’s hand on his shoulder. He allowed Kurt to continue rubbing his arm, but eventually he took Kurt’s hand in his and intertwined their fingers as he continued driving. As he gently rubbed his thumb over the back of Kurt’s hand, he gave his boyfriend a thankful smile as he wondered what he had done to deserve someone as amazing as Kurt. His eyes flickered down to their interlocked hands before returning to the road in front of him, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. He was holding hands with someone he loved in the car; something that all the love songs talked about but he never thought he’d actually be lucky enough to have.

When Kurt asked who Shane was, Blaine didn’t look over at him. He kept his eyes focused in front of him as he tried to figure out if Kurt had really just asked that. He hadn’t just mentioned Shane, had he? He had…He swallowed the lump in his throat. He wanted to tell Kurt about his family, but this wasn’t how he had wanted it to happen. Before, he had just been avoiding the subject. Now he would just be lying if he didn’t tell Kurt exactly who Shane was, and he had no intentions of lying to his boyfriend.

“Shane…is my brother,” he answered calmly as he kept his eyes looking straight ahead. After a few short seconds, he hesitantly glanced over at Kurt, keeping their hands intertwined as he continued driving down the highway. He wasn't sure how Kurt was going to react, but he knew one thing was sure: this was going to be quite the car ride.

Kurt was quite surprised by the answer to his question. Blaine had a brother? Why hadn't he ever mentioned...? Oh, God. Kurt had never *asked*. They'd been friends for months, boyfriends for a while; he'd been so excited to bring Blaine home to meet his family and Kurt had never really even asked about Blaine's. He blanched, feeling horrible about such a massive oversight on his part. "You have a brother?" he repeated back, feeling stupid as soon as the question left his lips. Wasn't that exactly what Blaine had just said? "You never told me...I mean I never asked, I'm sorry. I...I've never asked about your family. Do you have any other siblings? What's he like? Your brother...and the rest of your family. What're they like?"

Post  Blaine Anderson Sat Mar 05, 2011 11:53 pm

Blaine smiled over at Kurt before returning his attention back to the road. After what just happened to Rachel, he was sort of paranoid when it came to being in a car, especially when he had Kurt with him, though he pushed that thought out of his mind immediately. It was bad enough knowing Rachel was hurt, and he couldn't even imagine what it would be like if it had been Kurt in the hospital.

"You don't have to apologize," he said with a small smile, as soon as realized Kurt wasn't blaming him for keeping his family a secret. "I rarely talk about them, to be honest," he answered truthfully. He shook his head at Kurt's first question. "No, just Shane, and he's...he's different," he answered, smiling to himself as he thought about his brother. "I think you'd like him though. He's not as into singing as I am, but he dances. And he's...Well, he's loud," he said, putting it bluntly as he chuckled lightly to himself. "Loud and outgoing, and he really doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut but I guess I wouldn't love him if he wasn't the insane kid that he was. You'll get to meet him soon," he promised as he smiled over at his boyfriend. "He just transfered to Dalton...recently," he explained as he turned away again. He had let himself go on and on about Shane, and hopefully that'd be enough. The rest of his family really wasn't something he was ready to talk about, not in a car ride anyway. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner. I guess having a brother is pretty important, but it sort of slipped my mind to tell you."

Kurt didn't miss the fact that Blaine completely glossed over his parents while talking about his brother. From the way he talked about Shane, it seemed that he wasn't the one that made Blaine only rarely discuss his family. He was curious about that, but decided that this was not the time to pry. They had all the time in the world to talk about such things. Still, he felt bad that he'd never asked and made a mental note that one time soon, when they weren't in the middle of an emergency, he would sit down and ask about the rest of the Andersons...and find out why Blaine so rarely talked of them.

"Well I can't wait to meet him," Kurt replied. "Why'd he transfer in the middle of a semester?" he asked, concerned. "If it's private you don't have to answer that. I'm just...completely nosy and intrusive," he joked self-depreciatively.

“You’re not being nosy and intrusive,” he replied with a more genuine smile, glad that Kurt hadn’t pushed him to talk about his family. “Having a brother is sort of a big deal. I should have told you sooner,” he said apologetically.

He continued circling his thumb along the soft skin of Kurt’s hand as he came up with a truthful answer that wouldn’t leave Kurt completely confused until Blaine had time to really sit down with him and explain everything. “Honestly, it’s a long story and you deserve better than for me to give you a shortened version of it on a car ride to Lima,” he answered seriously. “But I promise that the second we get back from seeing Rachel, I’ll…I promise I’ll tell you everything, okay?”

Kurt nodded, then realized that Blaine probably couldn't see that while he was paying attention to the road. "It's okay," Kurt reassured, squeezing Blaine's hand as he gently pulled it over closer so he could press a quick kiss to the back of Blaine's hand. "I can be patient...and you don't have to tell me anything you're uncomfortable talking about, but I want to know as much about you as you're willing to tell me. Whenever you're ready to tell me," he added pointedly, kissing Blaine's hand again before moving it back to it's orignal position near the steering wheel.

Without that topic of conversation to pursue, he found himself starting to get more nervous about Rachel's condition. Neither Carole nor Finn had called him back yet. He knew it had only been a few minutes, but the longer he went witout word, the harder it was to not start freaking out a little bit. He began humming a little bit to distract himself, only realizing a minute in just what song he had subconsciously chosen. Rachel would be proud of his selection, he was quite certain. He squeezed Blaine's han again as he began softly singing. "While shivering in my shoes, I strike a careless pose, and whistle a happy tune, so no one ever knows I'm afraid..."

Blaine smiled to himself as he continued holding hands with Kurt. He realized then that he wanted to tell Kurt everything as soon as he got the chance. He loved his boyfriend, and he knew that he deserved Kurt deserved to know everything about him, even if it wasn’t the happiest story to tell. He would just have to make sure that Kurt understood there wasn’t anything to be concerned about. Between Karofsky and fitting in at Dalton, Kurt had plenty to worry about without Blaine adding more to his plate.

He found himself comforted by Kurt’s soft humming, and smiling as he felt Kurt’s hand tighten around his for the briefest moment. When he heard Kurt’s voice singing, he glanced over and smiled adoringly at his boyfriend. He honestly wished the Warblers would agree to change up their set list if it meant he’d be able to hear Kurt sing more often. As much as he loved just listening to Kurt sing though, he couldn’t resist from joining in with his boyfriend, “The result of this deception is very strange to tell, for when I fool the people I fear I fool myself as well!”
