Rachel shrugged. "Well I thought I'd try the whole 'teamwork' thing Mr. Schue was talking about before Sectionals," she said, putting airquotes around teamwork. "Besides, maybe people would start liking me. Or at least stop throwing slushies in my face. But it's not as easy as I thought it would be."

"Well, it means a lot to me." Finn told her seriously. "And I know it will mean a lot to everyone else too. Of course it'll be kinda hard, but it will be worth it." he leaned down to steal a kiss from her and smirked. "You're kind of awesome Rachel Berry."

Rachel resisted the urge to say 'I know' in response. Instead she just smiled and kissed Finn back and said, "Thanks. I hope you're right." Then she settled back in his arms to watch the movie, and she will probably end up singing along with it under her breath most of the time.

"I know I am." Finn said confidently. Because if anyone messed with Rachel he'd beat them until they stopped. His plan was kind of foolproof. Things were certainly beginning to look up. "Oh hey, I have your Christmas present if you want it."

Rachel beamed, because although she didn't celebrate Christmas, she stilled loved the fact that he had gotten something for her. She turned away from the TV to face him, barely registering that the movie was even playing. Whoops, that plan had fallen through the roof. "OK!" she chirped. "I don't have yours right now," she admitted, feeling bad. "I'm still working on it."

"Oh, no, it's cool. I just remembered, and since you're here and everything...." he shrugged, sliding out from behind her and walking over to open his dresser drawer. After a minute or so of searching he located the small poorly wrapped box covered in red paper and handed it to her, suddenly very nervous. He didn't have that much money to spend but Kurt had assured him several times that she would like the small star earrings Finn had picked out himself at the mall months ago. As soon as he'd seen them they'd practically screamed Rachel's name and he knew he had to get them. "Merry Christmas Rach."

Rachel took the box curiously, not minding at all that it's not wrapped the best. She tore off the wrapping paper and opened the box. She gasped when she saw the beautiful earrings. They were small and simple, just the way Rachel liked her jewelry. She didn't need any extravagant pieces. She also loved that they were gold stars, her favourite colour and shape. "Finn, they're perfect!" Rachel exclaimed. Still holding the box, Rachel threw her arms around his neck and kissed him deeply. After a while, she pulled back and draped her hair over one shoulder so she could put the earrings on.

Finn couldn't control the huge grin that plastered itself on his face due to his reward for good gift picking. "You know, if that's how you're going to respond, I might have to start giving you gifts more often." He told her, 100% seriously. "I'm glad you like them. Let me see," he glanced at her with the earrings now on, studying her appearance in what he hoped seemed a very critical manner. After a moment he smilied and kissed her. "You look beautiful baby."

"Well of course I like them. They are beautiful and absolutely perfect," Rachel said truthfully. "Thank you so much. I just hope my present to you is as good as these," she said worried. "I'd hate for it to be a letdown." Rachel tucked her hair behind her ears so the stars could catch the light and sparkle brightly. She snuggled into Finn's arms. It had been the best birthday ever. Maybe even the best day in a while. "Thanks again," she murmmered.

"They don't compare to you." Finn said quietly. "You're welcome. I'm sure I'll love your present, babe. I know how much time and thought you put in to all your gifts, so that alone makes me love it already." Pulling her close, he wrapped his arms around her tight and dropped a kiss on the top of her head. He wouldn't ever admit it to anyone other than Rachel, but he totally loved cuddling. Of course if Puck or anyone found out they'd try and rip off his junk, but it was the (secret) truth. The feeling of just having Rachel in his arms and not worrying about anything in the world just made life seem complete. "You're really, really welcome Rach. And I know it's been forever since I've said it, but I love you. I always have."

Rachel blushed. She had no idea what she did to deserve him, but she was thankful for Finn and whatever had made him decide to be with her. "I love you too," she said with a sigh. "It's been entirely too long since I've said that, but it's always been and always will be true." Rachel closed her eyes and thought to herself that this moment was perfect and should be able to last forever.

Finn sighed lazily. He felt so content and genuinely happy for the first time in way too long. "You know, I think that's why Quinn was so mad at you when we first met." he admitted. "Because she could tell that even way back then I was falling for you. I think pretty much everyone else figured it out before I did, which sucks. But part of me thinks maybe it had to happen the way it did, you know? Like, all the messy bad stuff had to go down so we could be such good friends and end up together. Does that make any sense?" He had no idea if he sounded smart or stupid at the moment. Maybe he was just blabbering on about nothing.

"Mhmmmmm, makes sense," Rachel said. "Personally, I could've done without the messy bad parts, but if they're what got us to right now I suppose I shouldn't complain." She blinked and refocused on the TV. "Oops. So much for watching the movie," she sighed. Just then, her phone went off. Pulling it out, she saw a text from Kurt.

In town. U busy?

Typing a quick reply, Rachel sent the message to Kurt and closed her phone and said, "Huh. I wonder what Kurt wants."

"Yeah, right now is pretty awsome." Finn agreed. When Rachel's cell went off he peeked over her shoulder to read the text. "I don't know, it's Kurt so there's really no telling." He hadn't talked to his step brother in a long time. Apparently he was really busy at Dalton.

Flat tire. Don't want 2 fix now. Come get me? @ Hummel Tire.

Rachel sighed but smiled softly. She was sad that her alone time with Finn had been cut short, but she missed seeing Kurt. She sent a speedy text back agreeing, then hopped off the bed and pulled Finn to his feet. "Looks like it's time to go pick up your brother," she said. "Drive us to the car shop?" Rachel cannot drive yet. Going by canon birthday, Rachel just turned sixteen. What a young one.

"I'll get my keys." Finn nodded and climbed off the bed to put on his shoes and grab his wallet, cell phone, and the keys to his truck. "Alright babe, if you're ready then let's go." Part of him was upset that him and Rachel's time alone together was over, but hell, Kurt was family now.

[Timeline Note: Picks up from A Seperate Room @ Breadstix]

Kurt grew increasingly nervous again as they approached, wondering if his dad and Carole were home. He couldn't wait for them to meet Blaine, but...he knew his dad could be a bit...intimidating.

As it turned out, it seemed that his parents were taking a night out on the town themselves (funny, he hadn't seen them at Breadstix...) That was slightly disappointing, but on the other hand would make it a lot easier for him to talk his dad into letting Blaine stay over. Surely it would be late enough by the time they got home that there was no way Carole would let him send Blaine back out on the road.

"I'm sure you'll get to meet my dad and Carole later," he assured as he took Blaine's hand and escorted him into the house. Kurt gave him a really quick tour of the main floor, stopping in the kitchen. "Now, since our dinner was so rudely interrupted...I can make you something. What do you like?"

Blaine couldn't keep the grin off his face as he was led through the house and then into the kitchen. He was excited to meet Kurt's parents later, but he was definitely happy with just spending time alone with the other boy for now. "You cook?" he asked, raising an eyebrow at Kurt. Blaine could boil water and he was pretty proud of himself for being able to do that much. "Well, I'm impressed. What's your specialty, Chef Hummel?" he asked, grinning as he casually leaned against the counter.

"It was either learn to cook, or learn to survive my father's cooking," Kurt replied lightly. "Have I told you about the time he served raw chicken...?"

Kurt began rifling through the fridge to see what he had to work with. He started calculating and considering what sort of casserole he could throw together, but then...that really would take a lot of time, and Blaine would probably get pretty bored watching him chopping vegetables and cooking pasta, plus there was the baking time. If he went all out to impress, there probably wouldn't be time left for a movie...or cuddling on the couch pretending to watch a movie. He came up with a much better idea. He smiled slyly. "It's not my best 'specialty' but how about...boulette de viande avec du fromage sur un petit pain?" he suggested, in perfect French. It sounded much more impressive than offering Blaine a cheeseburger.

"He did what?" Blaine chuckled lightly as he watched Kurt look through the fridge. "Sounds like he might be worse than I am in the kitchen." He crossed his arms across his chest and returned the smile, successfully keeping his jaw from dropping as he heard the French words leave Kurt's lips. Well, that goes into the top ten sexiest things he's ever seen and/or heard. Kurt could have offered him roadkill and he probably would have said yes if it meant he'd keep speaking French. "Vous savez parler français aussi? Kurt Hummel, what can't you do?"

The Hummel Household - Page 3 Empty Re: The Hummel Household

"Oui," Kurt answered Blaine's first question. He smiled beatifically at the awed tone of Blaine's compliment, but didn't answer. The only responses that came to mind were rather morose and definitely mood killers. So instead he quickly set to work, getting out the Foreman Grill (a welcome change to frying in grease), washing his hands, and making a quick burger. While it cooked he retrieved two diet cokes and any condiments he thought Blaine might possibly want out of the fridge, lightly toasted the bun, sliced a tomato, snagged a few leaves of lettuce, and recounted the horror story of his father's infamous raw chicken fiasco and other Burt Hummel cooking disasters he'd survived over the years.

As soon as the plate was complete, he set it in front of Blaine. “Bon appétit!” He made sure that Blaine had everything he needed, and then said, “Now…I’m kind of a mess and really want to get cleaned up if you’ll excuse me for a few minutes. If you finish before I’m back, just make yourself at home. Don’t worry about your plate; I’ll take care of it. There’s a big screen in the den,” he motioned toward the other room, “or I have a better selection of movies--that do not revolve around sports or gratuitous explosions--downstairs in my room if you prefer,” he added. “I’ll be just a few minutes.”

With that he hurried downstairs and made a beeline for his closet. He wasted a couple minutes trying to decide on the perfect outfit. He really felt like wearing his comfiest sweats, but those really weren’t things he wore around other people. Especially not people he really wanted to impress…or more specifically people he really wanted to get to kiss him. But…he still felt kind of gross, and he really just wanted to feel cozy and warm. So he picked out his softest chenille sweater and some black leggings. Not the most fashionable look, but reasonable and comfy. Plus, the sweater really was quite tactile, so…it was a good cuddling sweater, should the opportunity arise.

Decision made, he headed for the bathroom so he could take a quick shower to completely get the feel of Karofsky’s hands off of him.

He took a much shorter shower than he would have liked, but he really didn’t want to make Blaine wait long. He winced as he caught sight of himself in the mirror. His pale skin showed every tiny little bruise (as well as a few larger ones) that Karofsky had given him. Worst was the dark mark on his neck. He sighed as he wrapped his scarf back around his neck to hide it.

Satisfied that he was reasonably put back together, he went to find Blaine.

Blaine thanked Kurt before watching him walk off to get cleaned up and changed. He glanced down at his burger, which looked delicious, and added some condiments before taking a seat at the table to enjoy his dinner. He knew what Kurt had said about the dishes, but he washed his own plate off anyway. It was the least he could do after Kurt had invited him into his home and made him dinner.

Once he had that taken care of, he made his way to the den to wait for Kurt. He had no problem with watching sports, but he knew that Kurt wasn't into that stuff so he'd much rather watch something else. He was sure that Kurt would have Rent down in his room, one of Blaine's personal favorites. Maybe he would suggest they watch that together. He could see it now; Kurt and him on the couch together snuggling and watching Angel and Collins sing 'I'll Cover You.'

He sat down on the couch as he waited, standing up to turn around when he heard Kurt's footsteps. "Oh," were the first words to leave his mouth as he saw what Kurt was wearing. The sweater fit his body quite nicely- Okay, very nicely. As did the tights. Wow, how he hated the Dalton uniform right now. He would have loved to see Kurt like this more often. When he realized that he was staring, he flushed slightly, shaking himself out of his daze to smile at Kurt. "You...look nice."

Kurt might have been a little bit insulted by being told he looked "nice" if he hadn't noticed the way Blaine was staring. He felt his heart fluttering at the attention. He was also pretty certain that for at least this moment Blaine wasn't teasing or thinking of him as just a friend. Just maybe his hopeful thinking wasn't quite so far-fetched. "Oh, thank you!" He smiled radiantly as he crossed the room to stand before Blaine. "You're looking quite fine yourself," he added, boldly reaching out to twist one of Blaine's large curls loosely around his finger for a few moments before letting his hand drop to take hold of Blaine's hand. He swung their arms a little, his eyes not leaving Blaine's. "Have you decided what you want to do...?" His heart beat furiously, his nerves catching up to him. What if he was wrong and Blaine really wasn't interested in him that way? He wasn't always the best at reading others.

"Why, thank you!" Blaine grinned as Kurt reached up to touch his hair, and he didn't think his smile could get any bigger until Kurt took his hand. When the other boy asked what he wanted to do, Blaine remembered why it was that he wasn't a fan of crushes. They had this awful way of making him forget what he was planning on saying. He knew that he had thought watching a movie would be fun before, but he could think of some other things that he'd much rather be doing with Kurt right now. Though, watching a movie would involve the couch, and the couch certainly did look awfully inviting. He tried ignoring the butterflies as he glanced at the couch, then back to Kurt, making the mistake of looking into his eyes again and causing the butterflies to return. "I thought you might want to watch Rent," he suggested with another charming smile, the idea sounding rather silly now that he had his mind on one thing in particular. If Wes and David were here, they probably would have smacked him for not kissing Kurt just now, seeing as they had so kindly put up with him talking about Kurt nonstop ever since they caught him 'spying' on the Warblers. "It's up to you though. I really don't mind what we end up doing together."
