Blaine's jaw dropped when Sam managed to actually bend the fork. He blamed Sam's blabbering and joking on the awkwardness of the situation, and again he felt guilty for what he had just done in front of Sam. Sam may have hurt him in the past, but he hadn't deserved that at all. He shook his head and smiled in amusement as he politely helped himself to a single pancake and sat down on the opposite side of the table, not wanting to sit too close to Sam. He jerked his head up at the impression comment as a rush of memories came back to him. "You--" He cut himself short and swallowed nervously. He had almost asked Sam if he still did impressions, until he remembered that he didn't know Sam as far as Kurt knew. He forced himself to look back at Sam again, his own expression relaxed as he mentally amended his question. "You do impressions?" he asked calmly before he cut into his pancakes and took a small bite, feeling somewhat proud of himself for the way he had covered up his mistake.

After his spontaneous combustion of quirks, Sam snatched three descent-sized pancakes and shoved them into his vacuum-suction mouth. The size of his mouth had come in handy since he could merely just unlock it and swallow them whole like a python. Or he could just store them up there like a chipmunk who stores nuts or to what Puck was referring to when he asked how many tennis balls Sam was able to stuff in his over-sized jaw.
"Sowwie," he mumbled, through a hardy mouthful of strawberry pancakes. "I'mjustsohungryaknowaboyhasgotoeat..." he attempted chewing at the merciful mouthful. "See?Nountensils!" he exclaimed, shrugging as he demonstrated his bent fork.
When Blaine mentioned the impressions, despite the awkwardness in the atmosphere, Sam's eyes couldn't help but to light up. After finally swallowing that god forbid bundle of pancakes, he cleared his throat. "Why yes I do," he informed them as a rush of memories filled his brain of the times they'd go see midnight viewings of Harry Potter and he'd put on his best Snape impressions. "I'm kind of a master...won 2nd place two years in a row at the Lima Juniors Talent Show at the Lima Bean Fair...NOBIGDEAL!" And with that he shoveled another couple of pancakes down his pie hole.

Blaine chuckled and shook his head before taking another bite of his pancakes, while using his foot to push a chair out so Kurt would sit down next to him rather than somewhere else. "Second place? I wouldn't call that being a master," he teased with a small grin, surprising himself as he succeeded to actually joke around with Sam. He knew it was all an act, but the lack of awkward tension in the room was more noticeable now and he found it easier to relax as long as he kept in mind that he was with Kurt now and that anything that happened with Sam was just a thing of the past. "Now Kurt, he's a master," he said with a small smile as he gestured towards his pancakes with his fork. "These are the best pancakes I've ever had," he complimented as he looked up at Kurt admiringly. He looked back at Sam, smiling to show that he was only joking about the second place comment. "Alright then, let's see those impressions."

Kurt flinched hard when Sam slammed the fork into the table hard enough to bend it. His heart began pounding for an entirely different reason than moments before. As he quickly moved away from Blaine, not wanting his new boyfriend to realize just how badly he was starting to tremble at Sam's too-loud voice and frankly insane babbling.

He forced a smile at Sam's question about "forkgiveness", playing it off that it was just the noise that had startled him. Inside, though, he was completely freaked out. Part of him wanted to yell at Sam, asking him what the hell was wrong with him? Why was he acting like this? But the rest of him just wanted to run. He was weak; Karofsky had proven that to him last night. There was no way he could fight back if Sam...no. This was Sam. Adorkable Sam who was his friend, not some giant oaf of a bully. He was safe here. Blaine was here. And Blaine wouldn't let anything happen to him.

Kurt had years of practice with dealing with frightening situations, but Sam's outburst was just so...unexpected, and considering what he'd gone through with Karofsky within the past 24 hours, his nerves were frayed and his ability to deal was just about at the end of its limits.

But this was *Sam*. Big, sweet, geeky Sam. Sam, who just made a really dumb pun about having driven the fork so hard into the table that he'd bent it. Sam was acting weird, but he wasn't someone Kurt needed to be scared of. Was he?

Kurt's eyes drifted to the bent fork and he took another step back. Still he continued to force himself to smile, not really hearing whatever Sam and Blaine were saying to each other but realizing that whatever was wrong with Sam, Blaine seemed to be okay with it and Sam didn't seem quite as...frightening. Kurt reasoned that he was just completely on edge and overreacting because of Karofsky's assault. He absently reached up to be sure that his scarf was still in place. Everything was okay, he told himself, smiling more genuinely as he noticed the way Blaine was looking up at him.

Kurt wordlessly slid into the chair beside Blaine. He'd once again lost his appetite, but he hadn't eaten since early in the day the day before and knew he should at least try to eat something. He served himself a single pancake from the rapidly depleating pile.

"Okay!" Sam exclaimed with pure enthusiasm, clasping his hands together. He loaded his plate up with a hardy bundle of pancakes in preparation. He gulped down a glass of water, belched and then cleared his throat completely. "Here it goes..."

The expression on Sam's face shifted as he lowered his face and darted his eyes directly at Blaine. Once he had the intense, intimidating eye contact down to a science he performed his imitation in a stern, husky voice. "Come with me if you want to live." He paused for a moment to let the epicness of his impression soak in. "That was my Terminator impression. Ya know? Like..." His voice drifted back to its macho tone: "I'll be back!" with an added twist he laughed his best mischievous, villain cackle. "Pretty impressive, huh?" he cocked an eyebrow as he broke into a smug smile.

"But wait that's not all...." Sam hollered at them, extending his arm out to inform them to hold their horses. Then he put on his most vulnerable face as his eyes widened and lit upwards. Sam put one finger in front of him and mimicked; "ET...phone home...."

Blaine forced himself not to break eye contact with Sam, though he'd be lying if he said it wasn't uncomfortable with Sam's intense gaze directed straight at him. He felt tense up until he finally heard Sam's impressive impression which helped him relax, and he found that his soft laugh wasn't as forced as it had been all morning. He gave Sam a few light golf claps when the blond was finally finished. "I'll admit, I'm impressed. Those looked like first place impressions to me."

He glanced over at Kurt, who had been extremely quiet and withdrawn this entire time, before his eyes caught sight of his boyfriend's untouched breakfast. His smile was quickly replaced with a concerned frown as he remembered that Kurt hadn't eaten dinner last night at Breadstix...or when they had gotten home. "Hey," he murmured softly as he looked back up, locking eyes with his boyfriend as he tilted his head to the side and wondering if he had done something wrong. "What's wrong?" he asked quietly, forgetting about Sam for a moment as he focused his attention back on Kurt.

"Hmm?" Kurt asked, as though coming out of a daze. Which he sort of was, but he exaggerated it for effect. "Sorry, I think I really shouldn't have slept in that chair again," he passed off his withdrawn behavior. He smiled as he leaned his head against Blaine's shoulder, closing his eyes as though he were napping. "I'm fine, everything's okay," he assured. "Everything's great," he amended, smiling more sincerely as he thought about the amazing fact that just a few minutes earlier Blaine had really truly asked to be his boyfriend. That should more than make up for his ordeal with Karofsky, he decided.

"So, Sam, are you feeling better now that you've gotten some--a lot--of food in you?" he asked, trying to shift the attention away from himself again. "Because we've got some work yet to do to get your 'abulous' costume ready."

Blaine smiled as Kurt rested his head on his shoulder, and set his hand under the table to intertwine his fingers with Kurt’s. He knew that Kurt probably wouldn’t want him to worry so much about him, but he couldn’t help it. Between Karofsky and Kurt not settling into Dalton right away, Blaine had plenty to worry about with his boyfriend. Kurt had more than enough to deal with, and Blaine had convinced himself that he didn’t need to add more to Kurt’s plate by piling on his own life story about his issues with Sam and his own family problems.

When Kurt changed the subject, Blaine didn’t stop him, though secretly he was still worrying about Kurt. More than anything, he wanted his boyfriend to be happy and he never felt like he was doing enough to help.

Sam beamed as Blaine politely applauded, it seems as the two boys enjoyed his performance judging by the plastered smiles on their faces. Even despite the unsettled awkwardness that still existed in the atmosphere. Yet he didn't notice until Blaine had pointed it out that Kurt looked terribly strained and uncomfortable.

He fiddled with his broken fork as Blaine reached out to comfort him. Sam debated on acting all sympathetic but convinced himself against it since it would only lead to more necessary awkwardness...besides, Blaine was doing a grand job as a supportive boy friend.

"Yeah, Kurt," Sam pitched into the conversation. "I'm feeling much better actually but I might still need to hit the hay for a while." He got up from his chair and pushed it into the table, indicating he was leaving. "But...erm, good luck with stuff!" Sam bid, as he waved good-bye and darted out of the Hummel household in a flash.

Blaine's head turned as he watched Sam nearly sprint out of the room, feeling slightly at fault because he knew he must have been the reason for Sam wanting to leave so suddenly. He had done nothing but make things awkward, just by being in Sam's presence. "Bye," he started before realizing Sam was long gone.

He turned back to Kurt with a small smile, and leaned over to kiss him lightly on the cheek. "Guess he didn't want to work on the costume after all." He smiled softly as he gently brushed Kurt's bangs to the side, taking a moment to gaze into his boyfriend's eyes while he continued to remind himself that Kurt was his boyfriend. He couldn't keep the happy grin off his face every time he thought about it. "That...was quite the interesting night."

Kurt was still concerned about whatever was going on with Sam, but the other boy was gone so fast that he really didn't have time to register he was going before he was already out the door.

He smiled as he felt Blaine's lips against his cheek. He found he didn't even mind as he felt Blaine rearranging his hair. In fact...he kind of liked it. He turned to see that his boyfriend (squee!) was grinning at him and couldn't help but grin back. "I'd say it was more of an amazing night," he replied, pushing aside all the negative things that had happened and focusing only on the positive. "And an even more amazing morning," he added, tilting his head as he leaned in to give his boyfriend (squee again!) a kiss. His boyfriend! He still couldn't believe that it was real. But if it was just a dream, he really didn't want to wake up.

Blaine smiled as he leaned into the kiss. Kurt was his boyfriend, and Blaine was pretty sure that the idea of being Kurt Hummel’s boyfriend would never make him not smile. He was still smiling as he pulled away from the kiss, and he gently trailed his hand down the side of Kurt’s face before pulling his hand back completely. Kurt and Blaine, he thought to himself as he continued smiling at his boyfriend. He liked the sound of it...a lot, and he couldn't stop himself from envisioning them doing all the things he had dreamed of doing with Kurt; walking down the hallways hand in hand, being able to kiss Kurt whenever he wanted to, holding him without having to worry about crossing any lines, kissing him whenever he wanted to, snuggling with him in the dorms, and...kissing him whenever he wanted to.

He glanced down at Kurt’s barely touched breakfast, still concerned about his boyfriend not eating. “You really should try to eat at least a little more,” he insisted as he picked up Kurt’s fork. He took a small piece of the single pancake onto the fork, then held it up for Kurt to take it in his mouth. “One bite?” he asked, throwing in a slight pout in hopes that Kurt wouldn’t be able to resist saying no. Who says no to a pout, after all? Especially seeing as it wasn’t something Blaine did often.

[Oops. I totally dropped this thread. Sorry about that. Thanks, Burt for asking! I'm not sure if we'll wrap the scene up quickly or not, so it's up to you if you want to wait or if you want to start another hummel household thread...?]

Kurt eyed the bite of food Blaine was offering. He really didn't have much of an appetite anymore but how could he possibly resist his boyfriend (*squee* tm) feeding him? Especially an adorably pouting boyfriend? "Well...maybe just one," he agreed. He smiled coyly and leaned forward to carefully wrap his mouth around the offered bite, his eyes not leaving Blaine's as he slowly closed his lips around the fork and drew back.

[Haha. It's fine. Better late than never. XD ]

Blaine smiled somewhat triumphantly as Kurt, his boyfriend, took the offered food, and then leaned in and kissed him lightly on the lips, just because they were finally dating and Blaine was going to take advantage of the fact that he could kiss Kurt whenever he wanted to. "Now was that so hard?" he asked with a small grin as he set the fork back down on his plate.

[Heh. Oops, dropped this one again. But erm...hijacking for a later scene anyway Wink ]
[Timeline: After the car crash, Rachel's still in the hospital...]

Kurt almost giggled as just when he was about to kiss Blaine (again) his phone alerted him to a new incoming text. He really needed to turn that thing off before he and Blaine...got cozy. Then again, considering the accident and that Rachel was still in the hospital, he kind of needed to leave it on. He gave his boyfriend an apologetic look, paused the movie that they hadn't really been watching anyway, and checked his phone for the most recent message. It was, indeed, from Finn. He quickly sent off a reply. He gave Blaine a quick kiss. "I'm afraid we'll need to hold that thought," he sighed, smiling at his boyfriend. "I'll need to get some things together for Rachel and Finn. I'll be right back." And just like that, he was on a mission.

When he called to talk to her fathers, he reconsidered Finn's request about asking them to replace her phone. He could only imagine (with no small amount of horror) what phone his father would pick out for him under similar circumstances. So he asked them who Rachel's cell phone provider was so he could stop by the mall and pick up a catalog of available phones. He did, however, secure the offer from them to pay for it as soon as he let them know which one Rachel picked out.

Kurt knew that Finn wanted him to pick up a pink Ipod for Rachel, and he'd certainly be willing to do that, but it would take hours for him to be able to get the player and fill it with all the proper music. There were just far too many essentials to skimp on such a thing. Besides, much like with the phone, he wouldn't want someone else to pick out such an important accessory for him. He considered for only a few moments before he made up his mind and pulled out his own Ipod. He had all the music already backed on his laptop, and Rachel needed the Ipod more than he did for the next few days (possibly weeks, though if it stretched into that, he'd offer to take her shopping for her own...). While he was picking up a catalog for the phone, he'd also pick up a nice sparkly pink skin to put on his Ipod for while it was on loan.

He quickly packed up some overnight bags for Rachel and Finn (finding the least fashion-offensive pajamas and outfits for them that he could find). He'd need to stop by the spa to pick up a good Vitamin E creame, and then to the medical supply store to pick up the incentive spirometer her doctor mentioned she'd need for treating her lung, but otherwise he had everything they needed.

"Do you want to come with me, or would you rather stay here and relax?" he asked Blaine as he returned to the living room with the overnight bags.

Blaine smiled understandingly as he let Kurt get up and go take care of what needed to be done for his friend. He had felt a lot better about the entire accident, and although he still felt bad about Rachel's condition, he had stopped blaming himself as harshly as he had before.

He sat up on the couch, criss-cross applesauce, when his boyfriend came back in the room and asked if he wanted to join him. "Let me think..." he said, narrowing his eyes as if in deep thought. "Go with my boyfriend...or stay here and bore myself to death until I'm left with nothing else to do but destroy the house in some way." He smiled and hopped off the couch to join his boyfriend. "As much fun as staying here alone sounds, I think I'll be going with you," he decided as he locked arms with Kurt.

Continued from Here

Kurt understood where his father was coming from, but it didn't make him any less upset. He felt his heart clenching as his dad asked him to consider his family and friends. He didn't trust himself to speak, knowing that he would only sound completely whiney. His head told him that his father was absolutely correct that nothing was worth getting killed or...anything else. But his heart still clung to the fact that he would be missing out on Regionals. And Nationals. And Blaine! And it wasn't fair!!

He gave his father a curt nod before turning and practically tumbling out of the car in an effort to get away before he completely lost it. He rushed into the house, not even noticing if he was passing anyone else as he raced up the stairs and into his room, slamming the door shut behind him.

He folded his arms across his chest, hanging his head down as he let more tears spill over. He felt like such a baby, and knew he was kind of acting like one, but he couldn't control his emotions at all. He almost started to laugh hysterically as he realized that he'd left poor Pavarotti in the car. He just wasn't ready to go back out and face his father, or the rest of the family if Carole, Finn, or Rachel were home...he wondered if his father had told any of them what was going on. Finn would probably be mad that he was the last to know about something again. He should have called...and now he needed to call Blaine. As soon as he got himself under control.

Kurt's emotions were once again all over the map. He managed to calm down a little bit, but was still quite upset and angry...and as he sank down on his bed he added worried to the mix. He wasn't sure he'd be able to get through the night without Blaine. Blaine helped keep him from freaking out...and calmed him down when he did have nightmares. What if he had one tonight and Blaine wasn't there? How would he be able to keep his father from freaking out even more once he knew how bad Kurt was 'dealing' with everything. And then he felt guilty because he was leaning so much on Blaine through this...that wasn't fair to his boyfriend. Nothing was fair. Which led him back to being angry and upset.

He knew Blaine had to be worried, though, so he pulled out his phone and sent off a text, just to let Blaine know at least a little bit what was going on.

Post  Burt Hummel Sun May 15, 2011 1:30 pm

Burt stayed in the car, staring after Kurt as he made a run for the house. He ran his hand over his face, letting out a large sigh. He had no idea what he was supposed to do. He'd failed Kurt in some of the worst ways imaginable and couldn't help but feel that he was letting him down even more today. He knew how much the singing thing meant to Kurt. But he couldn't let Kurt get hurt any more. And he wasn't lying when he said that he felt he couldn't trust Kurt to tell him when he was in trouble. Bringing him home was really the only choice. That security guy did seem like he was doing everything right after-the-fact, but it didn't stop the fact that the Karofsky kid had managed to get to Kurt IN HIS ROOM. And just how long would they keep security outside Kurt's room? Maybe a week or two, but then it would be back to normal and Kurt would be a sitting duck again. So, no, Burt couldn't let Kurt go back to Dalton.

And he certainly couldn't let Kurt go back to McKinley so long as the Karofsky kid was there. But then, at least at McKinley there would be people watching out for Kurt, like Finn and the New Directions, and Coach Sylvester would be a very scary ally. At Dalton, Burt knew that Kurt had Blaine, but that was an awful lot of pressure to put on one kid. And Burt didn't really know Blaine well enough to know if he was up to that pressure. Plus...and Burt hated to think this way but...Blaine was even smaller than Kurt. If Karofsky went after Kurt again, and Burt had little doubt that the little cretin would, he wasn't sure that Blaine would be able to protect his son.

Burt got out of the car, collected Kurt's bird from the back, and went into the house. He went upstairs, just outside Kurt's door and stopped. He could hear Kurt still quietly crying and felt worse than before. He set the cage down outside Kurt's door and retreated back downstairs, giving Kurt a short time of privacy.

He picked up the phone and made a few calls, unsuccessful in getting a hold of either Coach Sylvester or Principal Figgins. Mr. Schuester would be in class about this time, he figured, so he tried the fourth one down on his list. The guidance counselor, Ms. Pilsbury-Howell.

Lucy parked her car in the Hummel's driveway, and tucked her keys in the back pocket of her jeans. She leaned into the side mirror, and checked the bags under her eyes. She looked exhausted, and felt that way too, wanting to rest her head on the pavement and sleep there forever. Another gift from Goolsby, just like her car. But she actually loved her car, so that was different. Before locking the doors, Lucy rummaged through the glove compartment for her makeup bag. She dabbed some concealer under her eyes, not wanting Kurt to worry. Walking up to the Hummel's door, she rang the bell and smiled warmly for whoever would open the door for her.

Kurt sighed as he took one last look at himself in the mirror. No amount of concealer would cover all the marks, so he had given up on the idea of trying to hide his blackened eyes. He continued to wear the sweatshirt he'd 'borrowed' from Blaine and his 'comfy' jeans that he usually saved only for when no one would see him, but...he just couldn't bring himself to care that much; he already looked ridiculous. He did, however, grab one of his scarves to cover his neck.

Unsure if anyone other than his dad was home, he rushed downstairs to get the door, figuring it would be Lucy. He didn't want her to have to get the third degree from his dad.

He took a moment to peek through the spyhole to make sure that it was truly Lucy, smiling as he saw her waiting on the stoop. He quickly unlocked the door and opened it. "Lucy!! Welcome to the Hudson Hummel Abode," he greeted grandly, motioning her to come in. "Thanks so much; I was going crazy without contact from the outside!" Okay, so it had only been a few hours since he'd been pulled out of school, but he sort of hoped that his father would overhear and feel a little bit more guilty about that decision.

Lucy pulled her hands out of her light VA jacket, just coming from practice. She smiled up at Kurt as he invited her inside, her cheeks brushing by his with air kisses. "No problem! I've been dying for some actual fun-time, and what better person to spend it with than Kurt Hummel himself?" She smiled, shrugging off the jacket before reaching up to one of the higher rungs on the coat rack. She turned back to face him, taking everything in from the floorboards to the patterned scarf, to the painted ceiling. It had definitely been a while, but it felt as though she had just seen him the other day. "Either you've decided to take up Blaine's view on fashion, or this is his sweatshirt." Lucy said with a knowing smile, and an eyebrow raised.

Kurt blushed a little but, but nodded. "It's his," he admitted. "I know it's silly, but...I just feel better since he can't be here." He gave her a quick welcoming hug. "It's so good to see you. I've missed you lately! VA has been keeping you busy lately," he stated rather than asked, his eyes lingering on the bags under her eyes. "I can't believe you escaped long enough to pay a visit," he half-teased. "Come on up to my room," he invited, leading her toward the stairs. "You have to fill me in all the news from the outside," he again exaggerated his 'captivity'.

Lucy smiled as Kurt's cheeks turned a slight shade of pink. "It's not silly at all." She said, just before hugging him back. "And it's good to see you!" Lucy said, as her smile grew wider. "You still have yet to tell me why you're in protective custody, along with the colors you've decided to use for eyeshadow, and such." Lucy said, asking about the topic while making nice of it. "I tried using some concealer to cover my eyes up," she admitted, "but I guess it just wasn't enough" She laughed lightly, following Kurt upstairs. She looked down the upstairs hall briefly, catching glimpses of other bedrooms, hoping she wouldn't see Burt running towards her with a crowbar. She followed Kurt up to his bedroom, and the bed was the first thing she saw. It was massive. And it had a fur blanket on it. Lucy wrapped the blanket around her like a cape almost, sitting with her legs crossed. This was her comfortable storytime position. "Well. I'm not sure I'm the best outlet for gossip, if the last thing I've checked on was Reed and Shane getting together...four months ago." She smiled. "But I do know a little about Mr. Schue's new show-choir sidekick...." Lucy said, shrugging her shoulders.
